A new beginning

This blog signifies a new beginning -- the beginning of something that I believe will be great. This blog recognizes an end -- the end of a year, of old feelings and hopes and dreams. In order to move on to the new, we must first come to terms with the old.

How has this past year changed us? Regardless as to whether these changes were positive or negative, they have made us who we are today. The trials we have faced over the last 354 days have made us look deep into ourselves for the motivation and strength to keep going, and the joys and successes have eased the pain of failure and of heartbreak, giving us the protective layer of skin to keep going.

2009 almost didn't come for me -- I spent New Year's eve in the ICU at a local Hospital, and had surgery to remedy my fractured skull January 1st. Mere centimeters saved my brain from being impaled by a small bone in my skull, and luckily no damage was done. The only side effect I experienced after the first 2 weeks of recovery, and am still experiencing now, is an uneven haircut, as the right underside of my hair had been shaved. The event was certainly an experience for me, and changed the way I viewed the world around me.

With a new found appreciation of life, family, and the importance of hair for both warmth and vanity, I am ready to begin 2010. I am ready to bring in the New Year, not with a bang (the sound of my head hitting the stairs as I fell), but with laughter. I am ready to make new memories.

This blog will serve as a daily reflection of my life as I live it day by day. I will be participating in Taylor McKnight's Project 365, the goal of which is to take a single photograph every day throughout the year.

It is not quite the end of this year, but it is never too early to create a new beginning. I look forward to sharing my adventures with you.
